SoHo

SoHo is a neighborhood located in Manhattan, bordering Greenwich Village, TriBeCa, NoHo and NoLIta.

Originally known as the Cast Iron district, due to the number of 19th-century cast-iron structures housed in the neighborhood (many of which can still be seen), SoHo is a cutting edge art, shopping and nightlife destination. Intended to be an expressway conduit from the Holland Tunnel to the Manhattan and Williamsburg Bridges, the neighborhood and its airy loft spaces instead became a haven for artists in need of affordable spaces with lots of light. Still known for its artistic history, SoHo now attracts wide variety of residents with its cobblestoned streets, charming 19th-century architecture and the electric atmosphere of its galleries, boutiques and newer luxury residences.
